Fraud Careers

Fraud fighting has become its own industry. I’ve spent my entire career in it and have never regretted that decision. Given the global explosion of fraudulent activity, it’s a rewarding and interesting career with endless international possibilities. If you’re interested in a career in the fraud or investigations profession but don’t know who to talk to about it, how to get started, or where to get the information you need to make educated and informed decisions or choices about your future, contact us.

While this is not part of our business to business solutions services, there is a real void in our industry in this area. Individuals ask us about this so often that we wanted to provide some guidelines for the types of background information you should share, which will help us assess your particular situation and return the kind of insightful professional career information you need:

Name:
Age:
Professional experience:
Professional interests:
Educational background:
City where you reside:

Provide as much detail about yourself as you feel comfortable with, in order for us to provide relevant career information and professional insights back to you. We try to respond to career inquiries as quickly as possible, but in the event you do not get immediate feedback from us…please be patient. We’ll get back to you at our first opportunity! Our career consultations are completely confidential.

Our initial consultation is offered at no charge and provided as a free service to those interested in entering the profession, transitioning to other areas of the fraud profession, or fraud academics.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES

Fraud Solutions offers a full range of consultative career services and professional development strategies including professional mentoring, career transitioning, career mapping, professional development planning, customized resume writing and cover letters tailored for specific types of industry positions.

For more information about successfully transitioning from law enforcement to the private sector, read the article authored by Daniel Draz titled: The Top Ten Steps Law Enforcement Personnel Should Take To Ensure Success When Transitioning To The Private Sector.” The article was picked up by the federal news site (fedsmith.com) and continues to be very well received nationally.

Professional Development Planning

Successful professional development requires a well thought out and executed plan. Much like a “work of art in progress,” professional development planning is not something you do once and forget about. Rather, it’s a comprehensive plan which continually evolves and changes over time. Accomplishments are regularly replaced with new career goals and objectives (both short and long term) and professional development encompasses many of the other elements discussed on this page.

For more information on professional designations, certifications and advanced education, see the article written by Daniel Draz titled: “Professional Designations and Certifications – Value Add… or Value Bad?”

At Fraud Solutions, we integrate vision, long term planning and career objectives into the equation to assist clients with the development of effective, comprehensive and realistic professional development strategies which achieve results and naturally progress over time.

Professional Mentoring

Professional mentoring is an extremely valuable, but often overlooked, component of the professional development equation. One of the keys to long term career success is having a professional relationship with a knowledgeable, respected and highly successful industry professional, who is willing to share their time, energy and expertise with another professional.

At Fraud Solutions, we recognize the value of mentoring and work with individual client’s to establish the baseline for a successful mentoring relationship in the professional development process.

Career Transitioning

Whether you’re transitioning from the public sector to the private sector after a successful government career or are transitioning from one specialty area to another with the private sector, career transitioning is an important step that warrants careful consideration, planning and industry research significantly in advance of the actual professional event.

We recommend initiating the process approximately two years in advance of the transition so that when the time comes, you’re prepared, competitive and hit the ground running. The time to start this process is definitely not after you leave your first job.

At Fraud Solutions, we have experience helping individuals (government and private sector) successfully navigate the challenging transition period, creating a positive professional experience and career direction.

Career Mapping

Career mapping is an essential, but often overlooked, component of any professional development strategy. The key mistakes most professionals make are failing to develop a vision and thinking “long term.” Personally, you would never just get in your car or boat and go on a trip without first looking at a map, chart or GPS to plan the most optimal route to take. The same holds true in your career. Most professionals fail to think beyond the current job they’re in or applying for and plan for the steps beyond that to ensure career success.

At Fraud Solutions, we work with you to develop professional vision and a roadmap for long term career success!

Customized Resume Writing

Resumes are definitely NOT “one size fits all!” If you are using one resume model for all positions you apply for and expect a recruiter or human resources professional to figure out how your skills fit their position – they aren’t going to take the time to do so. When 300 people are competing for one position, the average time a resume gets screened on manual review is about 12-15 seconds! If your resume doesn’t immediately catch the attention of the screener in that period of time, or via the key word matching software they are using, they have already moved on to the next candidate. Your resume must be unique, remarkable and stick out from the crowd for each and every position you apply for!

At Fraud Solutions, we don’t write one resume for you and expect you to use that for all positions you apply for. Instead, we work with you individually to write a base resume then teach you how to customize and tailor it specifically to fit the positions you are seeking.

Customized Cover Letters

Much like the resume information discussed above, cover letters are not “one size fits all” and must be unique and custom tailored specifically to the job you are applying for.

At Fraud Solutions, we write short and concise cover letters which not only compliment your resume but which focus on your education, training and experience highlighting those areas which are a direct match for the position.

Social Media Optimization

Optimizing your social media profile is not only important but essential in this competitive employment environment. Simply putting up a social media profile and forgetting about it, or doing nothing to update it… does nothing for you. It’s imperative that social media profiles, much like websites, are regularly updated. Social media applications utilize search engine search strategies much like websites do and showing up on page one when someone is searching for industry professionals generates more visibility than showing up on page 50!

At Fraud Solutions, we work with you to enhance your social media profiles so that they accurately reflect your education, training, expertise and are more easily discoverable when others are searching for professionals with your experience.

If you are interested in, or require more detailed one on one professional mentoring, or any of our consultative career services or professional resume writing and development assistance, please contact us for rate information.

Note: Fraud Solutions does not offer job placement service (i.e. we’re not headhunters). We’ve successfully consulted with those interested in getting entry level jobs in the industry, those making the transition from law enforcement to the private sector, and those with experience interested in progressing to higher levels within their careers or industries.
