One of the subjects that I routinely discuss in my White Collar Crime classes is whether or not current sentencing guidelines for white collar criminals are sufficient enough to deter the crime. While the main suspects in the high profile corporate cases got very stiff sentences, the question is whether stiffer sentencing requirements will serve as a deterrent to others committing financial crimes? The Manhattan D.A. seems to think stiffer penalties are needed for financial crimes committed on Wall Street!
